We at ODECU realize the inextricable connection between consumer rights and human rights. Thus as we protect one, we protect the other. By analyzing consumer rights within the scope of human rights, ODECU assumes an important advocacy role. We highlight violations—when appropriate—as they pertain to both domestic consumer law and international human rights law; this allows ODECU to monitor particular human right abuses of an often underappreciated Covenant: the International Covenant of Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights. For example, our work with consumers in the areas of adequate housing, potable water and food has allowed stakeholders to understand the inextricable connection between those rights and consumer rights. This approach has  allowed stakeholder's to (1) hear the consumer's voice and also to (2)understand it, while empowering consumers by educating them, holistically, about their responsibilites regarding the protection, promotion, and preservation of their rights and thus their health.

 Our organization works at all levels of our society to create positive change: from weekly seminars in communities, to monthly meeting with governement agencies, to seante committee presentations, to certifying private sector business through our consumer capacitation center, we strive toward inclusive, pacific agreements that protect the rights of all and ensure a healthy vibrant society that respects all its members.
